Where are they now?

Black Boy aka Blackie aka Huck

He has been such a fun addition to our family! We have three young boys, and the first couple of weeks with this puppy were tough. But we worked hard, and he has really grown in so many ways.

He is the best snuggler and is really bonding with our boys. Especially our almost two-year-old with whom he spends most days at our home. Huck is also full of mischief. He's never met a stuffed animal he didn't want to play with, he loves playing games of chase around the chair or dining room table, and he'll find every door or gate you meant to close, but didn't, and investigate what's behind it.

He is our first Griff (first hunting dog for us both), and we are really enjoying training him. He is so smart and adaptable, he loves to follow his nose, and he is proving to be a great family dog!

Orange Boy aka Pumpkin aka Ruger

He’s doing great. Such a lover. Really coming out of his shell.

Blue Boy aka Cobalt aka Amos

Amos is growing like a weed. He loves snuggling with the family and wrestling with his older brother, Gus. Gus isn’t always a willing participant. Amos has had some light bird training and will work on shed hunting and bird skills this spring and summer. He’s eager to get out the door with us next year and be a full time hunter. Also, my wife, Betsy, is “his person” and she’s coming to terms with that.

Yellow Boy aka Old Yella aka Boone

Red Girl aka Lil Red aka Molly

Purple Boy aka Grape Ape aka Stewie

He’s a Big boy. He loves to snuggle. He’s sweet. Loves to play and wrestle. His favorite person is his grandma Ruggles. He loves her. He’s a stinker but we sure do love him.

Lime Boy aka Limey aka Todd

We’re loving Todd. He was a perfect addition to our family. Just a little update for you. He loved the snow.

Pink Girl aka Pinkie aka Hazel

She’s such a good dog. She listens so well never wanders away like if she wanders a little bit we call her name. She comes right back. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a Griffin that has been so well behaved without training.

White Girl aka Elphaba aka Gracie

She loves to hunt anything and everything. She is doing well swimming and she loves to nibble your ears. Her bff is Uncle Biff-they are inseparable! She will have her NAVHDA NA test the end of September and has enjoyed her training days.

The French word, "Griffon,” points to a dog with a wiry coat, and in that regard, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon‘s name may be a bit redundant, but perhaps necessary since historically, many different breeds of dogs with facial furnishings and wire coats in Europe were referred to simply as “Griffons.” It was a description of “type,” not a specific breed of dog.

Very little, if anything, has changed in the breed since Dr. E.B. Ilyus wrote, “The chief characteristics in which the Griffon excels, and is superior over setters and pointers, are his ready adaptability to all species of game, all climates, and all varieties of terrain, his exquisite nose, wonderful vitality and endurance, and the pronounced instinct which makes him the easiest of all dogs to train on game. As a retriever he has, in my opinion, no superior, and being very intelligent and affectionate, he makes an ideal man’s companion.” Dr. Ilyus wrote this in 1917.

Breed fans have noted that the breed has changed very little over time, and that Griff expression is a classic!
